Happy #WorldBalletDay! We’re thrilled to be celebrating this fantastic artform with ballet companies across the globe. 🩰🌍

Tune in from 10am GMT to watch our (social-distanced) Company Class. See how we have adapted to new ways of working since the pandemic: repetiteurs lead class via Zoom to multiple studios, and dancers rehearse in small groups or bubbles, all while wearing face masks.

World Ballet Day 2020: Class on stage with Bubble A

To mark World Ballet Day 2020 we are very pleased to be sharing with you a ballet class filmed on the stage of Birmingham Repertory Theatre on 24 October, during our recent run of performances.

The Company is currently divided into three separate bubbles to ensure we keep everyone safe. This class is introduced by Director Carlos Acosta and led by Ballet Master Dominic Antonucci. It features Bubble A: Yasuo Atsuji, Tzu-Chao Chou, Mathias Dingman, Samara Downs, Momoko Hirata, Brandon Lawrence, Max Maslen, Miki Mizutani, César Morales, Beatrice Parma, Yaoqian Shang, Alys Shee, Tyrone Singleton, Alexander Yap, Yijing Zhang; pianist: Mathew Drury

ParAlicia #worldballetday

Ballet Nacional de Cuba is honored with its participation in the World Ballet Day, together with prestigious companies that work incessantly in the creation of new dance codes and in the preservation of the art that has been bequeathed to us. We wanted to present the video clip “ParAlicia” conceived as a tribute to our prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso (1920-2019). We could not think of a better tribute to that day and to the memory of our beloved teacher in the year of her Centennial.
This video had the collaboration of great personalities of Cuban culture such as Frank Fernández (music), Alejandro Pérez (direction), Tania Vergara (choreography) and the presence of the first dancer and general director of Ballet Nacional de Cuba Viengsay Valdés, in addition of the prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso.
Let’s keep dancing!

El Ballet Nacional de Cuba se honra con la participación en el Día Mundial del Ballet, conjuntamente con prestigiosas compañías que laboran incesantemente en la creación de nuevos códigos danzarios y en la preservación del arte que nos ha sido legado. Hemos querido presentar el vídeo clip “ParAlicia”, concebido como un homenaje a la prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso, (1920-2019). No se nos ocurre mejor tributo a este día y a la memoria de nuestra querida maestra en el año de su Centenario. Este video contó con la colaboración de grandes personalidades de la cultura cubana, como Frank Fernández (música), Alejandro Pérez (realización), Tania Vergara (coreografía) y la presencia de la primera bailarina y directora del Ballet Nacional de Cuba; Viengsay Valdés, además de la Prima Ballerina Assoluta Alicia Alonso.

O Governo do Estado de São Paulo, por meio da Secretaria de Cultura e Economia Criativa, apresenta:

Temporada em Construção

Em sua segunda participação como a única representante brasileira no World Ballet Day, a convite do The Royal Ballet, a São Paulo Companhia de Dança faz o lançamento do documentário Temporada em Construção.

Com concepção geral de Inês Bogéa, diretora artística e executiva da Companhia, e direção de vídeo de Guilherme Pinheiro, da Galeria Produções, Temporada em Construção parte do ponto de vista de profissionais das mais diversas áreas da SPCD para contar os desafios e as curiosidades envolvendo a montagem de uma temporada de dança no Brasil e no exterior. Também estão presentes depoimentos de profissionais da Amigos da Arte, gestora do Teatro Sérgio Cardoso, que recebe as temporadas anuais da Companhia.

As entrevistas são costuradas por imagens de acervo e também por uma coreografia inédita: Nuvens (2020), de Milton Coatti, gerente de ensaio da SPCD, apresentada em cenários como o Parque da Luz, o bairro do Bom Retiro, o Sérgio Cardoso e a Oficina Cultural Oswald de Andrade – sede da Companhia. A trilha sonora original é de Pipo Pegoraro e os figurinos são assinados por Uma – Raquel Davidowicz.

Temporada em Construção (Season under Construction)

In its second year as the only Brazilian representative on World Ballet Day and as a Royal Ballet’s guest, São Paulo Dance Company premieres the documentary Temporada em Construção (Season under Construction).

Created by Inês Bogéa, artistic and executive director of the Company, and directed on video by Guilherme Pinheiro, from Galeria Produções, Temporada em Construção presents the point of view of many different professionals of SPDC and showcases the challenges and glories involving the creation and realization of a dance season in Brazil and abroad. There are also interviews from professionals from Amigos da Arte, manager of Teatro Sérgio Cardoso, which receives the Company’s annual seasons.

The interviews are connected by archive footage and also a new choreography: Nuvens (2020), by Milton Coatti, rehearsal manager at SPDC, presented at some of São Paulo’s landscapes as Parque da Luz, Bom Retiro neighborhood, Sérgio Cardoso and Oficina Cultural Oswald de Andrade – the Company headquarters. The original soundtrack was composed by Pipo Pegoraro and the costumes were created by Uma – Raquel Davidowicz.
